Blizzard are appealing against Valve’s use of the DOTA trademark. Kotaku have spotted a NeoGaf post that brings to light the appeal notice put before the US Patent and Trademarks office late last year
Blizzard argue that “by attempting to register the mark DOTA, Valve seeks to appropriate the more than seven years of goodwill that Blizzard has developed in the mark DOTA and in its Warcraft III computer game”
The appeal says that the original DOTA mod was originally “distributed, marketed, and promoted by Blizzard and its fans” and is “built upon the 1 Warcraft III game engine, interface, and gameplay mechanics; that is comprised of Warcraft III characters, items, spells, artwork, textures, and color palates; that can be played only using Warcraft III software and via Blizzard’s online service Battle.net.”
Blizzard are busy developing their own version of DOTA, which aims to make a few changes to the formula. They say that the DOTA name “has come to signify the product of years of time and energy expended by Blizzard and by fans of Warcraft III,” adding that “Valve has no right to the registration it seeks.”

Next Xbox chipset in production, will release fall 2013
Earlier reports in the day came from Fudzilla and SemiAccurate, both of whom stated the "Oban" chipset has started production under the watchful eyes of IBM and Global Foundries. IGN has provided further specs, noting the GPU will be based on an upgraded version of AMD's 6000 series. IGN further states that the processors on the next Xbox will be six times as powerful as the Xbox 360's, and 20 percent more powerful than the Wii U. While the reported production of the GPU won't commence until the end of the year, IGN states that development kits will make their way to Xbox partners in August.

Beezow Doo-Doo Zopittybop-Bop-Bop Arrested
We've seen plenty of weird crime mugshots and heard plenty of bizarre stories. But when it comes to criminal names, this one is ... a mouthful.
Beezow Doo-Doo Zopittybop-Bop-Bop, 30, was arrested Thursday afternoon on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and a violation of probation in Madison, Wisc.
Zopittybop-Bop-Bop was born Jeffrey Drew Wilschke, according to court records unearthed by the Capital Times. He legally changed his name to Beezow Doo-Doo Zoopittybop-Bop-Bop in October.
According to Zopittybop-Bop-Bop's apparent Facebook account, when he's not in trouble with the law he enjoys activities including "eating," "standing," walking," "thinking," and "diamond." He's also single... so there's that, ladies.
'Devil Inside' lifts Hollywood spirits with $34.5M
The surprise hit from Paramount Pictures debuted well above industry expectations as horror fans crowded theaters for the low-budget tale about exorcists trying to free a woman possessed by evil spirits.
Between "The Devil Inside" and solid results for holdover films, Hollywood's business soared over the first full weekend of 2012 after a sluggish holiday season that ended a ho-hum year at the box office.
Overall domestic revenues totaled $144 million, up 29 percent from the same weekend last year, when "True Grit" led with $14.6 million, according to box-office tracker Hollywood.com.
Paramount already is well into profit with "The Devil Inside," an independently produced movie that the studio bought for $1 million. It's the latest such low-budgeted horror acquisition for the studio, which bought "Paranormal Activity" cheaply and turned it into a $100 million sensation that was followed by two hit sequels.
3DS Sales Top 4 Million in US
The new year is a time for looking ahead, but Nintendo of America isn't quite done reflecting on 2011, as the company today announced a multitude of sales milestones crossed by its products over the holidays.
First and foremost, the company confirmed that sales of the 3DS have surpassed 4 million units in the United States alone. Last month, Nintendo pegged the system's US installed base at 2.37 million, pointing to December sales in excess of 1.2 million for the handheld.
The system endured a sluggish launch but gathered momentum with a significant price cut and a holiday software lineup including the launches of Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. Those two games have each sold to about a quarter of 3DS owners, as Nintendo also revealed Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are the first two titles for the system to sell 1 million copies in the US.
