Miguel Cotto gets Revenge on Antonio Margarito

Miguel Cotto battered a one-eyed Antonio Margarito over nine lopsided rounds then won a TKO decision amid confusion in the corner before they came out for the 10th on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.

Cotto (37-2-0) earned a punishing measure of payback for his loss to Margarito three years ago. With the New York crowd going wild for the Puerto Rican Cotto, he was never seriously threatened and retained his 154-pound title, shuttering Maragarito's right eye to cause the stoppage.

Margarito beat Cotto in July 2008, only to later have his career and reputation tarnished when he used illegal hand wraps before a loss to Shane Mosley. Margarito didn't box again for more than a year.

He needed surgery to repair a fractured orbital bone following a loss to Manny Pacquiao last year and considered retirement. The New York State Athletic Commission didn't license Margarito until Nov. 22 after ordering another examination of his eye. Cotto took quick aim on the eye and it was swollen shut in the seventh round.

David Beckham, LA Galaxy ready for a tough match vs PHL Azkals

Don’t expect international icon David Beckham and the LA Galaxy to take the Philippine Azkals lightly when they cross paths Saturday in the Dream Cup 2011 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

Same goes with the Azkals, who will be without their key cogs Neil Etheridge and skipper Aly Borromeo to name a few, who vowed not to be pushed around.

“I think yesterday (against Indonesia) was a very difficult game. We had a lot of travel, our legs haven’t come back. We expect our game to be exactly the same, a very difficult game,” said Beckham, who along with team captain Landon Donovan led the Galaxy to a championship recently in the Major League Soccer, during a press conference Thursday night at the Makati Shangrila Hotel.

“We expect a difficult match, probably more difficult than the other night,” said LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena.

Sans Etheridge, Borromeo and others, the Azkals will have to bank more on their star strikers Phil Younghusband and co-captain Chieffy Caligdong.

2011-2012 NBA Season Schedule: Season Will Kick Off On Christmas Day

 

Nov 28, 2011 - The NBA lockout is over at long last, and the season will get underway less than one month from now, meaning that the Golden State Warriors will begin gearing up and looking forward to the impending season. Details have been released as to the specifics of the shortened season's schedule, via NBA.com.
The season will open on December 25, 2011, and run until April 26, 2012.
The 2011-2012 NBA Playoffs are slated to kick off on April 28, 2012, with a latest possible date for the end of the Finals coming on June 26.
The season, as previously announced, will be 66 games, with each team playing 48 in-conference games and 18 non-conference games. The full breakdown of these games is as follows:

Conference Games: 48
• Play 6 teams 4 times (2 home, 2 away)
• Play 4 teams 3 times (2 home, 1 away)
• Play 4 teams 3 times (1 home, 2 away)
Non-Conference Games: 18
• Play 3 teams 2 times (1 home, 1 away)
• Play 6 teams 1 time at home
• Play 6 teams 1 time away
Back to Back to Backs: All teams with at least 1; no more than 3
Playoff Back to Backs: Possible in second round

The end result could mean a potentially more exciting and hectic NBA season. With only 66 games, each individual game will mean that much more toward the final standings. Who knows? It could even be the key to the Warriors earning a playoff berth. It will also be interesting if the Finals end up pushing toward the thick of the summer.

UFC's ‘The Prodigy’ in Manila on November 30

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) legend BJ “The Prodigy” Penn will be heading to the Philippines to meet his Filipino fans at the end of November.

BALLS Channel, home of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), is bringing Penn to Manila for a media tour on November 30.

Penn, the former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion, will be the 4th UFC superstar to visit the Philippines.

Other UFC fighters who have toured Manila are Filipino-American Brandon “The Truth” Vera, Chuck “The Iceman” Liddel, and beloved MMA fighter Georges St.-Pierre.

 Although he recently lost to Nick Diaz in UFC 137, Penn has won several monumental MMA battles.

Among his victims were fellow UFC legend Matt Hughes, Kenny Florian, and Joe Stevenson.

Penn first caught the fans’ attention in UFC 34, where he knocked out Caol Uno in just 11 seconds.

Pacquiao salvages win with majority decision over Marquez
